SUMMIT COUNTY —The mayor of a Summit County town was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol over Memorial Day weekend after a breathalyzer test recorded his blood alcohol level at twice the legal limit, court records show.

Kevin Burns, the mayor of Dillon, was arrested on May 23 after being pulled over for allegedly running a stop sign in Frisco. An officer said in a police report that he was driving 10 mph over the speed limit when he ran the sign.

“I made a terrible mistake that night. I take full responsibility for my actions,” Burns said on Wednesday. “I hope people can look at me and learn a lesson that all it takes is one bad mistake, and it can happen to anyone.”
