Troy Guard, whose seems to grow larger by the day, is no stranger to the winner’s circle at the Hot Rocks Griller Challenge.
He’s been victorious almost every time he has entered this benefit for men’s health programs at , and this year the 1,000-plus guests picked his Southeast Asian-style fish sliders as their favorite.
The 16 chefs who participated in the cook-off also voted for their favorite, which was an octopus BLT from the grill manned by Jorel Pierce of .
Guests awarded second place to Austin Green, chef at , for his Korean barbecued pork belly slider. Pierce took third place in the attendee voting.
The seventh Hot Rocks Griller Challenge was chaired by Rollie Jordan, Don Daboub and Zach Wolfel and raised a record $115,000.
The grilling stations, bars and stage where performed were set up in the space between Elway’s Cherry Creek and the Bed Bath & Beyond store.
Dr. Art Gonzalez, who in September will celebrate his third year as Denver Health’s chief executive; Paula Herzmark, executive director of the Denver Health Foundation; and Michael Pollak, owner of and chairman of the Denver Health Foundation board, helped the co-chairs welcome a crowd that included former Gov. Bill Owens; former Denver Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan; Nancy Anschutz, whose daughter, Libby, is Tracksuit Wedding’s co-founder and keyboard player; Arlene Hirschfeld; and attorney Steve Farber, who arrived at the event following a sit-down with former President Bill Clinton. Clinton and his daughter, Chelsea, were in town for a meeting of the .
Josh Hanfling was introducing his friend Walter Isenberg to Sara Randall, who in August will be opening , a nonprofit started by country singer Dolly Parton to put age-appropriate books in the hands of youngsters.
