Golden State proved itself to be the best team in the NBA, topping Cleveland for the title in six games. But allow me to channel my inner Kanye West real quick to respond to Andre Iguodala winning the MVP trophy:
Yo, Iggy, I’m really happy for you, but LeBron James had one of the best finals of all time.
Don’t get me wrong, Iguodala deserved consideration. Strong on both sides of the court, he was a key component to the Warriors’ run. According to ESPN, from the floor when Iguodala was guarding him.
However, James was a titan during the finals, carrying the injury-riddled Cavs on his back like Atlas with the celestial sphere. He put together a video-game stat line: 35.8 points, 13.3 rebounds and 8.8 assists in six games.
WATCH:
Think about it — James, along with a rag-tag band of role players, pushed the 2015 NBA champions to six games. This without Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving. And despite J.R. Smith being, well, J.R.
“If I could have gave more, I would have done it, but I gave everything I had,” James said after the Cavs’ loss Tuesday.
James shot and made nearly 40 percent of the Cavs’ field goals — not because he wanted to, but because he had to. It was closer to 30 percent throughout the rest of the playoffs and down around 23 percent in the regular season. But who else was going to shoot — Iman Shumpert?
Without James, the Cavs would’ve been swept. With him, they had a chance to break Cleveland’s curse.
