The most-decorated Olympian in history said Wednesday that he will try to add to his collection of medals next summer.

, Phelps that he’s aiming to compete in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Phelps returns to competition this week, in the Arena Pro Swim Series in Mesa, Ariz. from April 15-18, for his first race since serving a six-month suspension by USA Swimming for a DUI.

Phelps’ suspension ended April 6, but USA Swimming decided he would not be allowed to compete in the 2015 World Championships in Russia. The 18-time Olympic gold medalist said Wednesday that he respects USA Swimming’s decision, but acknowledged that sitting out won’t be easy for him.

“It’s obviously very challenging and for me to not be able to compete at world championships,” . “I will be in full support of everything they do over there, and I wish them all the luck in Kazan.”
