Two southbound lanes of Interstate 225 reopened Tuesday afternoon at Parker Road after closing because of a semi-trailer that poured diesel fuel onto the heavily traveled artery, police said.
The closure began about 2:15 p.m. and prompted major delays. Two lanes were reopened at about 3:45 p.m. and all southbound lanes were open by 7:30 p.m.
Officials said the semi-trailer was on the interstate’s shoulder near Yosemite Street in Denver, about two miles southwest of where the interstate was closed.
“Road debris flew up and punctured a saddle (fuel) tank,” the Colorado State Patrol in Castle Rock said in a tweet.
Authorities are encouraging motorists to seek alternate routes to bypass the area.
Officials say the closure left the interstate a “parking lot.”
