Colorado Springs police say one person was seriously injured after he lit a firework inside a car Wednesday night and couldn’t roll the window down fast enough to toss it out.

Officers were dispatched to the area of Afternoon Circle and Dawn Break Loop about 9 p.m. on reports of a traffic accident when they discovered the scene.

Police described the injured person only as a male, and said the firework was homemade.

“The device exploded in the male’s hand causing extensive damage,” police said. “(He) was transported to Memorial Hospital by ambulance for further treatment and is expected to survive.”

Police say other devices were located in the vehicle and removed by the bomb squad.

Officials say they have yet to make any arrests in the case.
