William Betts, a 19-year-old Denver man, died over the weekend in Grand County during a camping excursion near the Sugarloaf Campground area close to Ute Pass.

An autopsy is pending on Betts and no official cause of death is available at this time.

According to officials from the Grand County Sheriff’s Office, Betts and a group of his friends were camping near the Sugarloaf Campground area off County Road 341. During a hike on Saturday Betts was discovered by his companions lying face down in the South Fork River.

Betts was taken to St. Anthony Summit Medical Center in Summit County where he was pronounced dead shortly after 2 p.m. Saturday.
