A semi truck is spilling fuel and delaying traffic on Interstate 70 westbound at Quebec Street after an accident Monday morning, according to Denver police.

The truck lost a tire and “at that point the driver lost control and hit the median” damaging the truck’s gas tank, said Denver Police Department spokesman Sonny Jackson.

About 200 gallons of fuel spilled onto the roadway, and a car “might have hit the tire, Jackson said.

The accident happened at about 6 a.m. All lanes are now open on the east side of the road, only one is open on westbound.

Delays are significant, Jackson said.
