Denver Fire Department broke ground Tuesday morning on its fifth station at Denver International Airport.
“This new fire station will enhance the ability for our partners at the Denver Fire Department to respond to areas that are farther from the airfield, such as the Federal Aviation Administration’s radar control center, Peña Boulevard, Final Approach, the south campus and the new Westin Hotel and RTD train stations on airport property,” Denver International Airport CEO Kim Day said in a release.
Station 35, at 25365 E. 75th Ave., will measure about 18,000 square feet and have four equipment bays.
It will be the first Denver fire station at the airport open to the public. The other four, which focus on aircraft rescue and structural response, are on the airfield.
Construction will be completed by summer 2016, according to the release. The airport did not provide a contract amount. Wong Strauch Architects designed the building. The general contractor on the job is PCL Construction Services. Both are based in Denver.
