One person was killed and two others injured when a pickup truck rolled over in a single-vehicle crash late Thursday in southeastern Colorado.

Investigators believe speed and alcohol contributed to the wreck.

The crash happened about 10:30 p.m. on Otero County Road 28 where a 2000 Ford F-150 was traveling southbound. The Colorado State Patrol says the pickup’s driver, 40 year-old Angel Quintero, of La Junta, lost control in a left-hand curve and went off the road.

“(Quintero) then over steered to the left, causing the vehicle to rotate counter clockwise,” the State Patrol said.

The pickup rolled three times, ejecting Quintero and two people riding in the pickup’s bed.

Quintero was not wearing his seatbelt and was pronounced deceased on-scene, the patrol said.

A 23-year-old woman sitting in the truck’s bed, Brittanee Rhoades of Green Mountain Falls, was flown to Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs with serious injuries.

The other person in the bed, 31-year-old Matthew Martinez of La Junta, was transported to Arkansas Valley Hospital.

“The crash remains under investigation,” the patrol said.
