Denver wasn’t the only city paying attention to Broncos outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware terrorizing the opposing quarterback. Some executives in New York noticed, too.
Ware, 33, was honored with September’s AFC Defensive Player of the Month award Thursday, his first player of the year award in his 11-year pro career.
The seemingly ageless pass rusher leads the Broncos with 3 1/2 sacks this season, which also places him second in the NFL. Ware also added a league leading 11 quarterback hits.
Ware is the only player to have a sack in every game this season. He’s currently in 13th place on the NFL’s all-time sack list with 130 1/2.
Only one linebacker in the last eight years (Clay Matthews, 2010) has more quarterback pressures than Ware (21) through three games, according to Pro Football Focus.
The eight-time Pro Bowler and seven-time All-Pro came to Denver via free agency in 2014 after spending nine years with the Dallas Cowboys. And now he’s a major cog in the Broncos No. 1 ranked defense in total yards.
The last Broncos player to win the award was outside linebacker Von Miller in October 2014.
