Colorado Springs police have arrested a 31-year-old man in the Friday night slaying of a woman.
Nikolas Anthony Gianes is being held without bond at the El Paso County jail on suspicion of second-degree murder.
Police say Gianes shot and killed 32-year-old Fawn Christine Gianes, of Colorado Springs, on the 5300 block of Babcock Place.
Officers initially responded to the area on Friday night on reports of a disturbance and shots fired. When police arrived, they found Fawn Gianes dead.
Nikolas Gianes is a former El Paso County sheriff’s deputy and that he and Fawn Gianes were married in 2013. Gianes resigned from the sheriff’s office after he was suspected in 2011 of driving under the influence of alcohol while off duty, according to the newspaper.
