A Denver man reputedly tied to the CMG Blood street gang has pleaded guilty to a federal charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Ronald Odean Bryant, 22, faces up to and a $250,000 fine for the felony conviction.
Bryant appeared Tuesday in a tan prison jumpsuit before U.S. District Judge Christine Arguello and politely answered a series of questions asked by the judge before entering a guilty plea.
Bryant will be sentenced on Jan. 20.
At the time of his indictment in May, Denver Police Chief Robert White called Bryant’s arrest significant in making the city safer following a series of gang shootings that left 11 people dead during the first four months of this year.
Bryant was among arrested on dozens of felony charges and more than 100 misdemeanors following a gang crackdown that began on April 27.
According to officials, a car in which Bryant was a passenger was pulled over on May 11 at about 11:30 p.m. for a traffic stop.
When he was asked to step out of the car, Bryant dropped a plastic baggie of what appeared to be narcotics — it was later determined that the baggie contained methamphetamine.
As Bryant was about to be frisked, he fled on foot but was arrested a short time later, officials said.
When he was searched, police found a round of ammunition in his pocket.
They also found a Ruger .22-caliber pistol loaded with seven rounds of ammunition under the rear seat of his car. A small revolver was also found in a beer box in the vehicle.
A woman had purchased the Ruger pistol for Bryant several days earlier, according to federal records.
