An inmate at the Arapahoe County jail died in a booking cell and his body was discovered Thursday morning by deputies.
James Proctor, 28, was arrested without incident by the Littleton Police Department on a warrant for failing to appear in court on a DUI case, according to an Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office media release.
Proctor was brought to the jail at about 2 p.m. Wednesday. He was being held in a booking cell, with another inmate, waiting to be assigned to a housing unit.
At about 5:25 a.m. Thursday deputies were conducting an inmate count when the other inmate in the cell responded but Proctor did not, the release said.
Deputies entered the cell and called for medical staff. Life saving measures were taken, the sheriff’s office said, but Proctor could not be revived.
He was pronounced dead at 5:44 a.m., according to the release.
At about 2 a.m. Thursday deputies had entered the cell and Proctor was alive at that time.
There is no initial indication of foul play, the sheriff’s office said. An investigation is ongoing.
