This week we got a first look at test scores from the first PARCC tests given earlier this year. In other news, a for-profit college is struggling and new numbers show how much time a Denver school board member is missing from her day job. Catch up on your reading here.

PARCC: showed pretty low achievement — like 18.9 percent of eighth graders meeting or exceeding expectations in math, which was mostly expected, but the data released Thursday also showed low participation rates. Because the federal government requires at least 95 percent of students get tested, they are submitting to the U.S. Department of Education.
