
A good Samaritan who tried to stop a domestic violence assault in Vail is in critical condition in a Denver area hospital.
The incident happened about 11 p.m. Sunday at the Sebastian Hotel in Vail, according to a Vail Police Department media release.
The good Samaritan and his girlfriend, both from Florida, heard a loud disturbance and saw a man assaulting a woman in a hallway at the hotel, according to Vail Police.
The Florida man tried to intervene and was knocked out, police said.
The suspect fled the scene but was taken into custody a short time later. Police identified the suspect as Paris Aguilera Baez, who was from Mexico.
Baez has been charged with criminal attempt to commit first-degree murder, first-degree assault, false imprisonment, harassment and domestic violence, police said.
The victim from Florida, who was not identified, was flown by helicopter to a Denver-area hospital.
