A 65-year-old man was arrested Friday for making bomb threats to Telluride schools and the San Miguel County Courthouse.

Kenneth Joseph Krawchuk, described by the San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office as a transient, was taken into custody in Cortez, according to a sheriff’s office media release.

Krawchuk allegedly called a Department of Agriculture office in Denver and threatened to “blow up public government buildings and made general threats against children in Telluride school yards,” according to the release.

Telluride schools were placed on lock down and later released when the suspect was in custody.

The San Miguel Courthouse was evacuated and closed for the day because of the phone threat.

San Miguel sheriff’s deputies will transport Krawchuk from Cortez to the San Miguel Jail.
