DURANGO, Colo. (AP) — A Durango man is offering to shuttle revelers to and from downtown bars this New Year’s Eve to honor two of his friends who were killed in a drunken driving accident.

The Durango Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1OuxHiQ ) that 22-year-old Brad Abeyta put his phone number in the newspaper and will be available from 3 p.m. Thursday through the weekend. He says he will drive as far as Hesperus, Hermosa, Edgemont Ranch and Grandview.

Abeyta also acted as a shuttle on Halloween, helping 65 people get home.

Durango police Lt. Ray Shupe says it’s entirely legal for Abeyta to act as designated driver to the masses for free, but that he is taking on a lot of personal liability.
