A Denver judge on Monday sentenced a 21-year-old woman to two years of probation for a July that prosecutors say was a hate crime.
Jhane Toney was given a suspended 60-day jail term contingent upon her successful completion of probation, said Lynn Kimbrough, spokeswoman for the city’s district attorney’s office.
Toney pleaded guilty in November to a bias-motivated crime that left a victim fearful and third-degree assault — both Class 1 misdemeanors.
Court records show prosecutors dropped a felony charge of a bias-motivated crime causing injury.
The victims told police Toney punched and scratched them during the unprovoked confrontation, according to an arrest warrant.
The women also told investigators that Toney singled out their sexual orientation in the attack about 1:30 a.m. on July 12 in a parking lot near the intersection of West 10th Avenue and Broadway.
