Two more smash-and-grab burglaries in Sheridan on Monday morning upped the total of similar crimes during the past week to at least 20 in three separate metro area jurisdictions.

But it is not clear if the break-ins in Englewood, Denver and Sheridan are connected, police spokespersons from the jurisdictions said.

“We haven’t linked them at this time,” said Doug Schepman, Denver police spokesman.

Denver investigators will talk with investigators in Sheridan and Englewood to determine if there is a connection, he said.

A dozen businesses along the East Hampden Avenue corridor in Denver between Happy Canyon Road and Tamarac Street, were broken into last week between Monday and Thursday.

This past weekend in Englewood, at least eight businesses were hit, with a thief or thieves, breaking windows to enter the shops along a more than 10-block stretch between the 2700 to the 3300 blocks of Broadway, said Sgt. Chad Read, Englewood police spokesman.

“This is still an ongoing investigation at this point, I can’t say if they are connected or not,” he said Monday.

In Sheridan, thieves broke into a Verizon Wireless shop where they stole display models, including an iPad, and took more than $100 from the cash register at Truck Logic, a truck accessory store, said Bruce Williamson, Sheridan police operations commander.

“I’m hearing the iPad they took was a dummy iPad,” he said.

Monday afternoon, Sheridan police released a surveillance photo of the suspect in the Verizon break-in. The thief appears to be 5-foot, 6-inches to 5-foot, 11-inches with a thin build.

Detectives investigating the Sheridan case will compare notes with investigators in Denver and Englewood, he said.
