Colorado Springs fire officials say 24 people were displaced early Thursday after a fire sparked by a careless smoker engulfed an apartment complex.
One dog died in the blaze, which destroyed about $500,000 in property.
The fire ignited about 1:30 a.m. at the Treehouse Apartments on the 1500 block of South Chelton Road.

The city’s fire department did not say what caused the two-alarm blaze. Officials say investigators will scour the scene throughout the day Thursday.
