The U.S. wholesale price of chicken wings, a staple of Super Bowl parties across the country, has climbed in the past eight weeks, the longest rally in two years.

Before Super Bowl 50 on Feb. 7, the cost at $1.705 a pound still is 4 cents lower than the XLIX price and down more than 10 cents from last year’s peak in the throes of March Madness.

The National Chicken Council says peckish Americans will eat 1.3 billion wings this weekend, up 3 percent from 2015.

Sales in Charlotte, N.C., are outpacing sales in Denver by almost 3-1. If history is any guide, that means a Panthers victory, the council said Jan. 27.
