A homeless man sleeps between the columns at Civic Center Park in Denver on April 12, 2014. (Seth McConnell, The Denver Post)
I just spent four days in our nation s capital and was amazed at how clean the entire area surrounding the White House, Capitol Building, memorials and museums was. No trash, no homeless people, no panhandling. I want to ask our governor: Why can we not have this in the area around the Colorado Capitol?
Civic Center and the Capitol area in Denver are an embarrassment. People lying on the ground, trash everywhere, aggressive panhandlers, rampant drug use. There are school buses lined up, tourists and locals going about their business — and the place is a mess. I frequent this area for business, and it is embarrassing.
While Washington, D.C., has many faults on a political level, the atmosphere and appearance are tremendous — and very inspiring. Let s please clean up our Capitol area and parks so we can present a great example of our wonderful state of Colorado.
