Loveland police are investigating the death of a 73-year-old man who drove to a lot by the emergency room at Medical Center of the Rockies Sunday afternoon, parked and fatally shot himself.

The authorities did not identify the man, saying he was not a patient. No hospital patients or staffers were hurt and the emergency room continued to treat patients, Loveland Police Sgt. Mike Halloran said.

Police were uncertain whether the man shot himself inside the vehicle or stepped out before pulling the trigger, Halloran said.

The shooting happened shortly before 2:11 p.m., he said. “”It is still under investigation.”
