More than 200 Denver Christians gathered on the steps of the Capitol Saturday to pray for Christians being killed in the Middle East and for aborted fetuses.

Rosaries dangled from the attendees’ hands as prayers in Spanish and English filled the air.

“This is a counterculture to the culture of death,” said Larry Smith, CEO of Catholic Charities Archdiocese of Denver.

The prayer communities meet once every four months on the Capitol steps for a public prayer session, Smith said.

“We want to unite and show the world we’re here,” Smith said.

The next prayer event at the Capitol will be held on Aug. 6 at 10 a.m.
