Overhead wires that will power the from Yale to Exposition are going live with electricity Tuesday, prompting warnings from the Regional Transportation District.

“For safety reasons, the public should always be aware that overhead electric lines may be energized at any time,” said Lisa Trujillo, RTD spokeswoman. “Never go near them.”

The I-225 Rail Line is scheduled to open later this year. It will operate within the city of Aurora and small section of northeast Denver.

RTD officials ask the public to be aware of the following when they are near the light rail system:

• The wires above the train are extremely high voltage. Do no touch or throw objects at the overhead lines or attempt to climb on the power poles — if they are up, they are live with electricity.

• Never trespass on any train track — it is illegal and dangerous.

• Never trespass onto construction sites and stay off the train station platforms until they are open to the public.

Wires from Nine Mile to Yale were electrified in October and remaining wires will continue to be energized along the alignment in the coming months.
