Pueblo County sheriff’s deputies say they arrested a pair of Pueblo West teenagers for allegedly trying to broker the sale of LSD via a social media website.
Mitchell Elfert, 19, was arrested April 8 after undercover deputies purchased $200 worth of the drug from Elfert. Austin Shelman, 18, was the driver of the car Elfert was riding in and was also arrested on drug charges.
Deputies said Elfert told them he purchased the drug from another website from “the deep web.” LSD is a Schedule 1 narcotic under federal law.
Deputies said Shelman admitted to driving Elfert “frequently” in order to sell LSD. Deputies said they found additional tablets of the drug in the car during a search.
Elfert was arrested on drug possession and distribution charges; Shelman was arrested on distribution and conspiracy charges.
The ad on the social media website, which deputies did not identify, also offered the sale of ecstasy and and marijuana. Though marijuana is legal in Colorado, its sale requires state and local licensing.
Neither man is licensed to sell medical or recreational marijuana, according to Colorado Department of Revenue Marijuana Enforcement Division records.
