Greeley-based Pilgrim’s Pride Corp. now is recalling almost 4.6 million pounds of cooked chicken products that may have been contaminated with plastic, wood, rubber and metal.
The recall issued Tuesday covers products produced from Aug. 21, 2014, to March 1, 2016 and shipped nationwide, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.
It is an expansion of an April 7 recall of 40,780 pounds of cooked chicken nuggets that may have been contaminated. That recall was prompted by consumer complaints of plastic in Gold Kist popcorn-style chicken patty fritters.
Tuesday’s recall was expanded to include possible additional “extraneous materials” of wood, rubber and metal.
The food was produced at the company’s plant in Waco, Texas, officials .
This expanded recall includes products such as Gold Kist Farms chicken strips, chicken patties and breakfast patties; Sweet Georgia breaded chicken tenderloins, popcorn-style chicken patty fritters, and hot and spicy breaded chicken patties.
There have been no reports of adverse reactions from consumption of the affected products, USDA officials said in Tuesday’s notice.
People who have purchased the recalled items are urged not to consume them, the USDA says. The products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
