Elk walk though the Rocky Flats National Wildlife Refuge in September. A $6.5 million plan would build underpasses and an overpass to provide people and animals access. (Denver Post file)
Re: Tunnel, bridge access to Rocky Flats coming under fire, April 27 news story.
While the idea of the Rocky Mountain Greenway Trail linking the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge in Commerce City to Rocky Mountain National Park is enticing, it should go nowhere near Rocky Flats. I applaud the efforts of Superior Trustees Sandy Pennington and Deb Williams and former FBI agent Jon Lipsky in their realistic grasp of the consequences of pursuing this plan. It is naive to minimize the potential danger that constructing this link could cause. Before this comes to a vote for Boulder, Broomfield and Arvada, the members should read Full Body Burden by Kristen Iversen to understand the present and continuing hazards presented by Rocky Flats. Let s be creative in a positive way and create a safer migration trail, for the people in the Denver metro area and the animals.
