The Douglas County School District will be arming school security guards with semiautomatic rifles. (John Leyba, The Denver Post)
Re: Why is Dougco schools going to lock its semiautomatic rifles in cars?, April 29 letter to the editor.
I could not agree more with letter-writer Barbara Vetter s plea for handier access to heavy rifles in our schools. Learning institutions will never become the bastions of security that our children deserve and our terror-ridden society demands, until they are ringed with concertina-wire fortified moats, mined concrete barriers and sniper towers. Carrying Vetter s passionate appeal to its logical conclusion, no parent should rest, or rest easy, until school principals are granted low-yield nuclear retaliatory capabilities. The price of safety is freedom!
