How would the world have been different if Zach Braff had never made “Garden State”?
It’s a question I ask myself every morning, right before I button up my and ride my scooter to my house.
While the film the whiny hipster archetype, its soundtrack had an even on pop culture.
The album was basically Braff’s Sharpie-scrawled CD-R to the world, a mix that brought the Shins, Iron & Wine and yes, , who kick the OST off, to a much larger listening world.
For Coldplay in particular, who would go on to massive success, the film seems to have altered the course of history.
Without that on “Garden State,” would Coldplay have gone on to ? Would they still have with Beyonce?
Would Chris Martin have still gone on to grow to the size of Godzilla and terrorize the world, as he does in Coldplay’s new video for “Up&Up”?
Zach Braff, what have you done?
The video is more than just a terrifying Chris Martin stomping around our world’s oceans and mountains, though. You should check it out if only to confirm that — phew — that footage has been altered, and Martin is probably not his way towards you as you read this.
Also, it handily beats their last music video from “A Head Full of Dreams,” which is just so, so weird. 3D monkeys creepily lip synching and dancing to a Beats Pill speaker in the jungle? We’ll pass.
