Boulder police have released the names of two officers involved in the fatal shooting of a man who allegedly pointed a gun at them.
Ryan Austin, an eight-year police veteran, and Ross Maynard, a six-year veteran, are on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation into the shooting at Boulder Creek.
Police say Bryson Fischer, 28, pointed the gun at the officers, who went to investigate reports he had been firing a gun into Boulder Creek.
Both fired their weapons when they confronted him about 2:15 p.m. Saturday under the Broadway bridge.
“The man pointed a gun at people in the park before turning the gun on the two responding officers,” according to a release.
Fischer was taken to Boulder Community Health where he was later pronounced dead.
The Boulder County Investigation Team, a team made up of investigators from various law enforcement agencies throughout Boulder County, is investigating the incident.
The shooting happened on a sunny Sunday afternoon, and the park was active at the time.
Investigators believe there are still witnesses who they have not talked with and are asking individuals who were in the area when the incident occurred to call 303-441-4455.
