Six alleged Denver gang members have been indicted on federal gun charges in the past two months.

The cases have been jointly investigated by local and federal crime investigators through the Crime Gun Intelligence Center (CGIC), according to a United States Attorney, District of Colorado media release on Thursday.

The CGIC, part of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, uses cutting-edge technology and a dedicated investigative team to identify guns used in crimes, as well as the source of the guns, authorities say.

Prosecutors identified the defendants as:

  • Benard Keith Reed, 21, a felon who was arrested by Denver Police on April 19. Reed was indicted for felony possession of a firearm on May 2.
  • Dashon Javee Pigford, 26, a four-time felon who was indicted on June 6.
  • Keon Anthony Nixon, 24, a four-time felon who was indicted on June 7.
  • Brandon Laeraye Nelson, 27, who was arrested on May 18 by Denver police responding to a Shot Spotter alert and 911 calls on shots fired.
  • Omari Tavon Martin, 20, a two-time felon was arrested May 13 by Denver police as an armed robbery suspect. Martin was indicted June 7.
  • Isaiah Claypool, 25, a felon who was arrested May 14. Claypool, who was indicted on June 7, was mistakenly released from the Adams County Jail and is currently at-large.

Joining the ATF in partnership with the CGIC are the Denver Police Department, Aurora Police Department, Lakewood Police Department, the District Attorney’s Offices for Denver, Arapahoe, Adams, and Jefferson Counties and the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
