Investigators with the 18th Judicial District determined Thursday that there were no fraudulent signatures submitted last month with an election petition for the recall of Castle Rock town councilwoman Renee Valentine.

Valentine claimed last week that . She took her concerns to the district attorney’s office.

An investigator contacted the voters whose signatures were suspected of being forged and each identified their signature on the petition and told the investigator that they remembered signing it, the DA’s office said.

The matter is now considered closed.

“We take allegations of criminal election law violations extremely seriously, which is why I have assigned an experienced and knowledgeable team to investigate and assess all complaints quickly and efficiently,” District Attorney George Brauchler said in a statement Thursday.  “Because election law violations strike at the core of our democratic process, I am always gratified when my team finds that nobody broke the law, which is the case here.”

Valentine’s recall election is scheduled for the November ballot. Her colleague, Mayor Paul Donahue, .

The council members have been targeted by a group of residents .
