The University of Colorado’s Boulder campus is dropping the hyphen from its informal name.

Instead of CU-Boulder, you’ll now see CU Boulder on university communications going forward.

The change went into effect Friday, though the university isn’t replacing existing communication materials that contain the hyphen.

“It will take some time to phase it in,” said campus spokesman Ryan Huff. “There will be some previously printed materials that have the hyphen. But going forward, our publications will refer to CU Boulder without a hyphen on second reference.”

CU officials said the change will make the Boulder campus more consistent with its sister campuses, which do not use a hyphen.
