The driver of a semi-trailer who authorities say rear-ended a sedan Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 70, sending its four occupants — including two children — to the hospital, had pleaded guilty to two traffic violations in 2014, records show.

Court records show the semi’s driver, 60-year-old Carlos Monroy, of Aurora, pleaded guilty in Jackson County to improperly driving in the mountains in 2014.
In another 2014 case, Monroy pleaded guilty in Saguache County to speeding 10-19 mph over the limit, according to court records.
Trooper Nate Reid, spokesman for the Colorado State Patrol, said charges against Monroy in Wednesday’s incident are pending but have yet to be filed because the crash remains under review.
“It’s still being investigated,” Reid said.
The crash happened about 2:30 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-70 near the U.S. 6 interchange when Monroy “was unable to stop” and collided with the rear end of a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu that had slowed while entering a construction zone, the State Patrol said.
Two children in the Malibu, a 5-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy, were in booster seats and were seriously injured in the crash. They were flown to Children’s Hospital Colorado for treatment.
A 40-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman, also in the Malibu, were taken to a hospital and released with moderate injuries. All four were from Florida, according to authorities.
An update on the children’s conditions was not released Thursday.
Monroy was not injured in the crash.
The crash strangled traffic in the area — in both directions of I-70 — for several hours.
