Greeley had the highest reported crime rate of any large northern Colorado city in 2015, according to a Tribune analysis of data released by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday. It also reported the largest decline in crimes from the previous year and the highest arrest rate in the region.
Comparing per-capita rates of Greeley, Fort Collins, Loveland, Longmont and Boulder shows Greeley had the most reported crimes in 2015, 21 percent more than Fort Collins, which had the lowest rate, according to the bureau.
However, Greeley did report an almost 16 percent reduction in reported crimes from 2014 to 2015 — down from 4,710 to 3,961. The reduction far outpaced any declines seen in any large neighboring community.
Across the state, Greeley has a reputation as a busy city for police officers, said Police Chief Jerry Garner in response to the statewide crime statistics.
