COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — A man charged in a fatal shooting at a Colorado Springs landscaping business has been sentenced to 27 years in prison.
34-year-old David Barker was sentenced Monday for the Aug. 19, 2014, death of Kenneth Bentley. Prosecutors agreed to a plea bargain to second-degree murder to avoid the risk of an acquittal at trial.
Bentley, a 39-year-old married father of six, was shot after he and Barker stepped into the garage at Lawn Guys, a now-defunct landscaping service.
Defense attorneys say both men were high on methamphetamine. Meanwhile, prosecutors say Barker claimed self-defense but gave several different versions of what happened.
Barker did not address the court Monday.
