Mug shot

All good deals float to the top, especially on National Root Beer Float Day. On Aug. 6, A&W Restaurants are serving up a free small root beer float from 2 p.m. to closing at participating locations, while supplies last. The classic treat is served in a frosty mug filled with root beer and topped with creamy vanilla soft serve. Grab a spoon and a straw to enjoy. Limit one per customer.

Case-by-case

Firefighters always can use more water. In this case, itap to help those in need. On Aug. 6, Firehouse Subs is collecting bottled water, as part of its H2O For Heroes campaign. Customers who bring in a case of water (24-pack) for donation receive a free medium sub sandwich at any location. Limit one sub per person. All of the water will be distributed to local fire and police departments to help those in need. Most shops are open from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Celebrate 5 with $10

IKEA Centennial marks its fifth anniversary in a big way. On Aug. 7, the first 700 IKEA Family members to show their membership card at the Showroom entrance will receive a $10 IKEA gift card. Festivities start at 9:30 a.m., so get there early. If you’re not already a member of its loyalty program, you can join for free. Bargain hunters know a $10 gift card will definitely get you a few small items.

Custard’s last stand

Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers is celebrating National Frozen Custard Day with a sweet deal. On Aug. 8, get a single cone or dish of the restaurantap signature vanilla or chocolate frozen custard for $1 at participating locations. Toppings and/or a waffle cone are extra. Even more delicious, 50 percent of sales will be donated to charity. Most locations will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on the tasty day.

Independence day

If you love independent films and documentaries, make a date for Aug. 9 at the Denver Film Society’s Sie FilmCenter. The theater is offering $2 tickets all day. Savings continue at the concession stand with small popcorns, small drinks and Pabst Blue Ribbon beers for just $2 each. Even better, parking is also free in the lot accessible off Colfax and Columbine. More discounted days in the months ahead are expected to be announced shortly.

Early bird

The smell of breakfast can definitely wake you up, even more so when itap free. Every Wednesday in August, Chick-fil-A serves a free breakfast entrée from 6 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at any participating Denver area location. Mark your calendar for Aug. 10, 17, 24 and 31. Each restaurant will offer its choice of entrée, so items each week may vary by location. The good-morning freebie is valid at the drive-thru, too. Limit one per person, per visit.
