A house fire in Lakewood injured two people Tuesday, and firefighters rescued a dog who had hid under a bed in the basement.

West Metro Fire Rescue firefighters rescued this dog from a house fire Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2016, near the intersection of West New Mexico Avenue and South Van Gordon Court in Lakewood. (West Metro Fire Rescue)Two people were taken to a hospital, suffering from smoke inhalation, to be treated for minor injuries, the fire department said.
The fire was sparked in the garage of the house by someone who was smoking, according to West Metro.
It took firefighters more than an hour to put out the fire, which caused severe damage to the home.
