Kenneth Kubic, owner of Jurassic Pets, also was ordered to have no contact with animals as part of his sentence, according to an Adams County district attorney’s news release.
Kubic, 62, was convicted of 18 counts of animal cruelty in May. Witnesses, during a two-day trial, testified that animals — kittens, hedgehogs, reptiles and rodents — were kept in filthy enclosures without adequate food and water. Several animals died because of the conditions.
Kubic’s wife, Lynn Denise Kubic, and son, Brian Kubic, also were prosecuted in the case.
As a condition of probation, Adams County Judge Brian Bowen barred Kubic from working with animals during his probation. Kubic was ordered to receive education and training in animal care. The court imposed an $1,800 fine, and Kubic also must pay court costs.
Kubic is appealing the conviction, and the court granted a stay of imposition of the sentence. Kubic, however, can not work with animals during the appeal.
