Denver District Attorney's Office
Christopher Derby
A man who was sentenced Monday to four years in prison.

Christopher Derby, 28, had earlier pleaded guilty to a felony bias-motivated crime, according to the Denver district attorney’s office.

Derby received the maximum sentence under a guilty plea agreement, prosecutors said.

The victim was attacked at about 2 a.m. July 25, 2015, in the 1000 block of South Broadway, where she was walking with friends. Derby assaulted the victim, who suffered lacerations requiring stitches, because of her ethnicity.

At the sentencing Derby made a brief statement to the court, apologizing for his actions, according to a news release.
