The driver of a vehicle that crashed early Saturday near Glenwood Springs, , had a blood-alcohol level nearly three times the legal drunken driving limit, according to the Garfield County coroner.

Tests also showed 20-year-old Erick Mondragon had cocaine, methamphetamine and the psychoactive compound of marijuana in his blood, Coroner Robert Glassmire says. His blood-alcohol content was 0.236 percent, according to toxicology reports, far above Colorado legal drunk limit for drivers of 0.08.

Authorities say Mondragon, of Glenwood Springs, lost control of his 1995 Toyota truck on U.S. 6 between Canyon Creek and New Castle, causing the vehicle to skid across the highway, roll onto its side and collide with a steel fence.

The crash left Mondragon and his 19-year-old passenger, Amalia Cabrera-Torres, dead. Mondragon was not wearing a seat belt, but Cabrera-Torres was, according to investigators.

The Colorado State Patrol believes alcohol and excessive speed contributed to the wreck.
