Re: Nov. 19 Katelyn Beaty column.
Considering myself an evangelical, I’m most curiousabout Katelyn Beaty’s definition of the word. She seems to suggest that Hillary Clinton would have been a better choice for Christians’ votes. The fact is that Christians are supposed to be guided by God’s principles and mandates, as set forth in the Bible. Most of the Christians I know well found that Clinton stands firmly opposed to God’s directions regardingmany hot-button issues of recent years, including homosexuality and abortion. Another fact is that in my 79 years on planet Earth, I can’t remember more than three, possibly four candidates for the presidencybeing really acceptable, based upon God’s standards. A sad conclusion is that we simply have to vote for the candidate seeming the least flawed. We just do not have good choices. Obviously, Beaty felt Hillary was the lesser of the “evils”offered. That was her choice, but does not mean that those voting for Trump were “wrong.” Unfortunately, Billy Graham was not a candidate.

Thank you, Katelyn Beaty, for sharing what I have felt even before the election.
I followed evangelist Franklin Graham and was usually inspired by his words. But when he began speaking of praying about this election, he seemed to encourage Christians to still vote for other candidates down ticket even if they were not voting for Donald Trump. But then, post-election, he starts proclaiming how God intervened in the election to help elect Trump? I was mortified! The lying, the adultery, the idolatry of money above all else, and he tells the world God ordained this? Dismissing possible harassment victims as not being pretty enough, describing his “locker-room talk” as “just words,” and challenging supporters to check out a “sex tape”? This is the man held up as a role model for Christian children to be president?
I continue to love Mr. Franklin, but I no longer follow his opinions. I simply cannot condone the hypocrisy of serving the needy while supporting a President-elect who plans to call out an entire religious sect for persecution and spend millions searching for illegal “Mexicans” and building a wall. This behavior is in direct contrast with biblical principles and seems like the 21st century equivalent of the Crusades. May God forgive us all.
