A man has been arrested and a mother and her young son rescued in Boulder following a purported armed kidnapping in the metro area that led Aurora police to issue an Amber Alert on Wednesday.

Authorities say the mother and son — 20-year-old Brenda Sanchez and 3-year-old Ivan — are OK and that an investigation into the case is ongoing.

Sergio Martinez, 21, was taken into custody. Details on his arrest were not immediately provided.

The Daily Camera reports the three were found in a vehicle at a Wendy’s restaurant on Baseline Road near its intersection with Broadway.

Investigators were searching for Martinez as a suspect in the case. An Amber Alert was sent to phones in the metro area at about 1:30 p.m. and cancelled roughly an hour later.

Authorities received a report about 8:30 a.m. that Sanchez and Ivan were being held at a location in Denver. When Denver police officers arrived at the scene, they were unable to find anything.

Denver police then asked Aurora police to check an address on the 17600 block of East Loyola Drive that is connected to Sanchez, where investigators were able to speak with her family.

Aurora police then began receiving reports of Martinez’s vehicle being involved in a hit-and-run crash near the intersection of Smoky Hill and South Buckley roads.

“Sergio has a no contact order with Ivan and Brenda,” authorities said in the Amber Alert. “Sergio may be armed and Ivan and Brenda are considered in danger.”

Authorities said Martinez was to be considered armed and dangerous.
