Icy road conditions may have contributed to a fatal head-on collision in Fort Collins Saturday morning, in which the driver of a pickup truck slid into oncoming traffic and collided with a much smaller Scion iQ.

The driver of the 2014 Scion was killed. That person’s identity has not yet been released by police pending notification of family.

Fort Collins police said Theresa Tryon, of Fort Collins, was behind the wheel of a 2003 Toyota Tundra heading east on Horsetooth Road, west of where it intersects with Lemay Avenue, around 10:30 a.m. She lost control of the vehicle “on the icy roadway” and crossed the center line and into the path of the westbound Scion.

Police said Tryon, who was not injured in the incident, had been a Fort Collins 911 emergency services dispatcher from 1994 until last year.

Horsetooth Road was closed between Lemay Avenue and Stover Street for approximately 5 ½ hours while investigators processed the scene. Police do not believe alcohol or drugs contributed to the collision.
