Brewers 9, Rockies 4, at Maryvale Baseball Park

PHOENIX — The Rockies’ young guns got shelled Sunday afternoon in a 9-4 loss to Milwaukee. Right-handers , Ryan Castellani and James Farris suffered rough outings as the Brewers scored eight runs over their last four innings.

For starters: Right-hander , making his first Cactus League start, looked sharp in his two innings on the mound. He made one big mistake, leaving a center-cut fastball over the plate and Hernan Perez made him pay for it, blasting a solo homer to deep left to lead off Milwaukee’s second inning.

“Chad had a couple of simulated games … so I think he was ready for Cactus League action,” manager Bud Black said. “He made pitches; I thought his stuff was crisp. The one home run was just missed location on a fastball. I thought he threw the ball well.”

Hits: smashed a solo homer off a 3-1 pitch by Chase Anderson with two outs in the fourth, tying the game 1-1. It was Story’s second homer of spring training. He also had a double. … Cristhian Adames smacked his second homer, a solo poke to dead center in the ninth. … ‘s bat has been cold so far this spring (.211 average), but his fielding remains golden. The third baseman made back-to-back fielding gems in the third, first barehanding a bunt by Ryan Cordell and throwing him out with ease, then fielding a chopper behind the third-base bag and throwing a strike to first base to nip Yadiel Rivera. … First baseman , who’s having a very good camp, robbed Eric Thames of a would-be extra-base hit down the line and flipped to pitcher Kyle Freeland covering the bag.

Misses:Estevez, struggling with pitch locations, gave up two runs on three hits and a walk. Castellani was charged with three runs on three hits, including back-to-back homers. Farris, acquired from the Chicago Cubs for right-hander , got beat up in the eighth, giving up two runs on three hits.
