A Denver Police Department motorcycle officer looking for speeders on Speer Boulevard near the Pepsi Center was involved in a crash with a car Friday afternoon.

Authorities say the officer’s injuries appear to be non-life threatening. The officer, who had been with Denver police since 1998, was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition, Denver Police Sgt. Chad Kuroda said.

The incident happened near the intersection of Speer Boulevard and Chopper Circle about 2:44 p.m. Police closed roads in the area, and several units responded to the scene.

Kuroda said the officer was conducting “speed enforcement for southbound Speer. While traveling southbound, he made contact with a silver sedan and as a result of that collision, the officer was injured.”

Speer was closed from Elitch Circle to Chopper Circle. The boulevard reopened at about 4:30 p.m., police said.
