An Arapahoe County sheriff’s deputy who was with a state trooper Saturday left the hospital, and the Colorado State Patrol identified the Trooper who was also injured, on Sunday.
The crash Saturday evening near Manila Road and 48th Avenue near Watkins sent both drivers to area hospitals.
The Arapahoe County Sheriffs Office reported that the deputy was released, “despite serious injuries,” on twitter shortly after 8 a.m.
The CSP identified Ivan Alvarado, a corporal, and ten year veteran of the department, as the patrol member injured in the crash. He is currently assigned to Troop 3D, serving the communities along the Interstate 70 corridor east of the Denver metro area.
Alvarado, who was responding to a call for service when the vehicles collided, was taken to University Hospital with serious injuries.
7 News helicopter photos of the crash showed the deputy’s SUV with a smashed front end and the trooper’s vehicle with its roof sheered off. Debris from the vehicle lay nearby on the gravel road where the vehicles crashed into each other.
The state patrol reported that the trooper was communicating with emergency responders. Arapahoe County reported that its deputy was in serious but stable condition Saturday night.
Aurora police are investigating the crash.
