One llama was rescued after becoming stranded on the south side of the Big Thompson River and a second is still missing after both were spooked by a bear.
Speckles, a white llama, was rescued Thursday by Loveland Fire Rescue Authority and Estes Park Fire Department personnel, and assisted by the Bien family, which owns the animal.
“He’s fine,” said Darren Christiansen, who works at Kirk’s Fly Shop in Estes Park, which also is owned by the Biens.
Speckles and Bravado, a brown llama, were on land owned by Kirk’s Fly Shop in the Big Thompson Canyon when they were spooked by a bear on Wednesday, according to information from Christiansen.
“We had two llamas down on one of our properties,” Christiansen said. “They freaked out because a bear came around two nights ago, so they took off.”
